One Day

It won't always be like this.
The curve the letters of his name form won't always make your insides shrink and twist like agitated earthworms.
The vivid lines his arms form as they connect down to long fingers encircling something distant and beyond won't always make the air fall down around you.
Remembering his finger to your lips or his head upon your shoulder won't always make your lungs fill with sticky black dread.
Meeting his mother and the promise of costco cards won't always be a disingenuous play designed to make you fall calmly into his glove-like grip.
Opening your lips to reference "his" jokes won't always make the earth stand still as your tongue dries in your mouth.
One day you won't even remember those jokes. You'll have new ones.
One day you won't ferret out every promise of a glimpse or grasp for drops of knowledge of his life. You'll live free and unbounded, unconcerned with that dark corner of your life.
One day you won't wake up with tear-stained cheeks. The day will challenge you to fill your shoes with the amazing woman that always glimmered in the corner of reality.
One day your heart won't palpitate with sorrow as you ignore his messages. It won't feel like a missed opportunity and you won't be washed over with desperation hoping his meanderings lead him back to you.
One day your luck won't be run out, your heart running on fumes. You'll no longer feel out of fight and you'll be lucky again. Your heart will soar and this moment will be remembered like a faint smell of sadness on the wind that dissipates as quickly as it came, like all the others. You'll slowly realize that you weren't that lucky to begin with when you witness what real luck is.
Something better will make you forget, and be better for this. You'll be a fascinating creature polished by the adversity of life.
One day.
