It was like I was speeding towards something, although I wasn't sure what.
Truth?
A crash?
Something inside me was whispering, be careful. Something inside was saying, wait wait, slow down. Some invisible string was pulling me somewhere around the vicinity of my belly button, like wait just a moment. Just wait. Don't lose yourself yet.
Invisible hands hold me back a little, hands of trepidation. Ready for something to falter. Protect yourself, they're pleading. It's that feeling you get jumping off a cliff. You want to do it, badly. However, you kind of forgot how far it was to go. How much higher it looks from here. How cold you're sure the water is going to be. You're starting to remember that feeling of air being crushed out of your lungs by the sheer frigidity. Why not just stay here, where it's warm? Why not just walk back down, lay in the sun?
But then, something else is pulling at your midsection. The desire to jump. The anxiety of feeling like a quitter. Like missing out on something fun just because you couldn't take the heat.
Everything leading up to it seems like forever. The decision to jump is less than a flash.
The air is rushing past, before the final chilly, breathtaking splash.
This is what it is, to jump.
To speed towards oblivion.
